John accepts a small number of commissions each year: a family home, a tenement close, a favourite building, or a place that means something to you. Each commission is painted by hand in pen and watercolour, in the same manner as the works in the gallery.
What John paints
- Homes, tenements and townhouses
- Shopfronts, pubs and family businesses
- Churches, schools and wedding venues
- Streets and buildings in Glasgow, elsewhere in Scotland and abroad
How a commission works
- Get in touch. Tell John about the building, send a few photographs if you have them, and mention any date you have in mind.
- Agree the details. John will suggest a size and viewpoint and confirm the price and timescale before any work begins. Where possible he visits and sketches the building himself.
- The painting. John works from his own sketches and photographs to make the finished painting.
- Delivery. The finished original is carefully packed and sent to you, or can be collected in Glasgow.
Size and price
Commissions are usually painted at A3 (420 × 297 mm). Prices can be discussed depending on size and detail. A price is always agreed before work begins.
Timing
Please get in touch to discuss the timing of your commission.
A commission as a gift
A painting of a first home, a family house or a much-loved building makes a lasting gift. If you would like to keep it a surprise, John can arrange the details with you quietly, and a gift card can be sent for the recipient to open.
